Why You Should Be AN ALIVE Camp VOLUNTEER
One of the first things that comes to mind when people think about Alive Summer Camp is being a volunteer. It’s probably because volunteers are the “front lines” of the ministry. Day in and day out they spend time with their campers building relationships, making memories, and having a lot of fun! On the outside, being a volunteer looks easy. You’re serving a generation through play! But the emotional, mental, and spiritual needs of tending to the campers can be challenging. At the end of Alive Summer Camp, serving as a volunteer is one that you will never forget! Here are a few reasons why you should consider volunteering this summer:
You get to be a role model. our campers will look to you for EVERYTHING. Their actions will be based on you how you act and respond to any given situation. You will become a role model not only for the week, but for life!
Life-long friendships. Many of the friendships you form at camp are lasting. Because of the mission field, you get much closer much faster than anywhere else. Even if you come from far away, the bonds you form as a volunteer will last a lifetime. We honor up, honor down and all around. It's that simple. We believe that loving God leads to honoring others in powerful human interaction, community, and collaborative partnerships.
You hone your leadership skills. It takes leadership to guide anyone for a week. If you are strong or weak in this area, being a volunteer can help you build up those skills.
Technology use is limited, so you are able to live life unplugged for a while. We live in a time and culture where people are dedicated to technology. As a volunteer, we take that away and you can live life unplugged. It’s amazing what that does to your health and your walk with God.
Being a camp volunteer teaches you to be a well-rounded, compassionate, and responsible individual. The campers you minister to will be coming from many different backgrounds and experiences. They will wish to share them with you and work through many struggles. As a volunteer, you will learn how to show compassion to those who are hurting like never before.
You’ll never be the same. After a summer as a volunteer, your life will be changed. You will have grown a lot, learned a lot, and experienced a lot in three days. Life change is unavoidable in a situation like that.
